Great Diamond Island
Diamond Cove is the island's small private residential community, formerly a military base built during America's Gilded Age. Army structures that were once scattered over the land have been restored and are now homes with wonderful historic detail and character. Prior to being an army base, Diamond Cove was a famous artists' retreat where American literary greats such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Harriet Beecher Stowe spent time. Today, Diamond Cove is also home to the luxurious Inn at Diamond Cove, highly rated Diamonds Edge Restaurant, and the Fort McKinley Museum.
Great Diamond Island is not accessible from the mainland by car and primary modes of transportation are golf carts and bicycles.
